Your Home Away From Home Hey guys, Due to a lot of race related events that have been going on here at the University of Illinois campus, as well as several other college campuses across the nation in the last few months, I thought itd be appropriate to touch on this subject briefly. When you are here at Illinois, in whatever capacity that may beâ"whether it is as a student, teacher, or deanâ"Illinois is your home. Not only is Illinois your home, but the people around you are your family. You may not know them all and you may not always get along with them all, but when you come to this amazing institution, you should feel welcome and safe, just like you would at your home. I am not here to pick sides or to inform you of injustices. This is me letting incoming Illinois students know that if you come here, you are my brothers and sisters on this campus, and that you should never feel afraid to attend your classes or feel threatened by another student. No university is perfect, but the student leaders and administration here on campus have taken steps to understand one another and come to a conclusion that will make all parties feel that progress has been made. We all want the same thingsâ"to be able to attend an amazing university, get a quality education, and build great memories while doing soâ"and I believe Illinois has made steps so that those goals are not deterred from for any person attending the university.
